The Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) announces service changes due to the lingering effects of Monday’s snowstorm. Trash and recycling collections will be postponed tomorrow, Tuesday, January 7, 2025, due to inclement weather and ongoing low temperatures. Rather than Tuesday’s collection being postponed until Saturday, Tuesday’s collection will resume on Wednesday, January 8. The remainder of the week’s trash and recycling pickups will also be postponed to the next day:

  • Wednesday pickup is now Thursday
  • Thursday pickup is now Friday
  • Friday pickup is now Saturday

Mechanical Street Sweeping: Street sweeping operations remain suspended until further notice due to snow- and ice-filled curbs and temperatures that limit the effectiveness of equipment.

Emergency Services Available

DPW’s emergency services remain operational to address water or sewer issues. Residents can contact:

  • Baltimore City: Call 311 or submit a service request via the Balt311 app.
  • Baltimore County: Call (443) 263-2220.

Winter Preparedness Tips

As cold weather persists, DPW encourages residents to take precautions to protect their homes from frozen pipes and flooding:

  1. Let Your Faucet Flow: Run a thin stream of cold water from a faucet in your basement or lowest level.
  2. Keep Pipes Warm: Open cabinet doors to allow warm air to circulate around exposed pipes.
  3. Disconnect Outdoor Hoses: Remove hoses and shut off water to outdoor spigots.
  4. Stock Bottled Water: Keep bottled water on hand in case of service disruptions.
  5. Check Your Sump Pump: Test your sump pump regularly to prevent basement flooding as snow and ice melt.

City government is expected to reopen on Tuesday, January 7, but a final decision will be announced later this evening. DPW will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates on the openings for Residential Recycling Centers and other DPW operations. Stay informed by following DPW on social media or visiting the official DPW website.
