DPW Announces Holiday Service Updates for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day

The Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) has updated its holiday service schedule following Mayor Brandon M. Scott’s announcement that Christmas Eve, Tuesday, December 24, 2024, will be observed as a City holiday. In alignment with this declaration, DPW will suspend street sweeping services and close its collection drop-off centers on Christmas Eve. On Christmas Eve, trash and recycling collections will take place on their regular schedules.

All DPW offices, sanitation yards, and drop-off centers will be closed on Christmas Day, Wednesday, December 25, 2024. There will be no trash or recycling collections on this day, and street sweeping will not be conducted. Trash/Recycling Makeup Day for the Christmas Day Closure: Saturday, December 28.

 

Christmas Eve – Tuesday, December 24, 2024

  • No street sweeping
  • Drop-off Centers will be closed
  • Trash and recycling collections will proceed as scheduled

 

Christmas Day – Wednesday, December 25, 2024

  • All DPW offices sanitation yards and drop-off centers will be closed.
  • No trash, recycling collection or street sweeping will occur.

Makeup Day for Trash and Recycling Collection: Saturday, December 28, 2024.

Closed Facilities on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day: The following DPW facilities will be closed to residents and haulers:

  • Northwest Transfer Station – 5030 Reisterstown Road
  • Quarantine Road Landfill – 6100 Quarantine Road
  • Northwest Residential Recycling Center – 2840 Sisson Street
  • Southwestern Residential Recycling Center – 701 Reedbird Avenue
  • Eastern Residential Recycling Center – 6101 Bowleys Lane

 

Free Christmas Tree Mulching Services

DPW offers free Christmas tree mulching for Baltimore City residents from Thursday, December 26, 2024, to Saturday, February 1, 2025.

Location: Sisson Street Residential Recycling Center (2840 Sisson Street).

  • Hours: 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
  • Preparation: Please remove all ornaments, tinsel, and decorations before bringing your tree. Residents should bring their bags or containers to collect mulch.

Alternative Christmas Tree Disposal

Residents may also dispose of Christmas trees with weekly trash collections until Friday, February 7, 2025.

  • Trees must be placed at the same location where your trash is collected.
  • Preparation: Ensure all ornaments, tinsel, and decorations are removed.

Note: There will be no Christmas tree mulching or collection services on New Year’s Day, Wednesday, January 1, 2025.

 

311 Call Center Open on Holidays

The City's 311 call center will remain open on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day and all other City-observed holidays.

  • Service requests are accepted from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., seven days a week, 365 days a year.
  • For water or sewer emergencies, Baltimore City residents can dial 311, while Baltimore County residents can call (443) 263-2220. Requests can be submitted online or through the Balt311 mobile app on Google Play or the Apple App Store.
