As part of the Baltimore City Department of Public Works' commitment to maintaining transparency, we are sharing our latest statement regarding the conclusion of the Maryland Occupational Safety and Health (MOSH) investigation. As we continue working to strengthen protections for our solid waste employees, we remain dedicated to ongoing improvements and accountability.

The Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) acknowledges the citation issued by the Maryland Occupational Safety and Health (MOSH) following its investigation into the tragic loss of one of our employees due to heat-related injuries. At this time, we are carefully evaluating the details of the citation to determine next steps.

DPW has actively participated in the investigation and taken significant steps to strengthen protections for our solid waste employees. This includes improvements to our infrastructure, workplace culture, and operational processes to better safeguard our workforce.

Most significantly, we are finalizing a Heat Illness Prevention Plan to ensure that all employees working in high-temperature conditions have the necessary protections, training, and resources to stay safe. Our commitment remains steadfast: to provide a work environment that prioritizes the health and safety of every DPW employee.

We will continue to cooperate with MOSH as we review the citation and take any necessary steps to enhance our workplace safety standards.
