The Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) Acting Director Khalil Zaied reminds residents that Independence Day will be observed on Thursday, July 4, 2024. As a City-observed holiday, DPW offices and sanitation yards will be CLOSED.

The Independence Day closure WILL impact weekly trash and recycling collections. Trash and recycling makeup day is Saturday, July 6, 2024. There will be NO street sweeping during the Independence Day closure.  

DPW facilities closed on Independence Day to residents and haulers include:

• Northwest Transfer Station, 5030 Reisterstown Road
• Quarantine Road Landfill, 6100 Quarantine Road
• Northwest Residential Drop-off Center, 2840 Sisson Street
• Southwestern Residential Drop-off Center, 701 Reedbird Avenue
• Eastern Residential Drop-off Center, 6101 Bowleys Lane

Extended summer hours for DPW Residential Drop-off Centers are now in effect from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Saturday. These extended summer hours are effective until Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 2. 

Please note that the Northwest Transfer Station will remain open from 7 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday- Saturday, and the Quarantine Road Landfill's Residential Drop-off will remain open from 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., Monday-Saturday.

The City’s 311 call center is OPEN on Independence Day and all other City-observed holidays. The 311-call center stands ready to take service requests from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week, 365 days a year.

DPW reminds residents and water customers to report water/sewer emergencies to the City’s 311 call center. To report a water/sewer emergency, such as a water main break, Baltimore City residents can dial 311, and Baltimore County residents can call (443) 263-2220. Requests can also be submitted online or through the Balt311 mobile app, from Google Play for Android users or the Apple App Store for iOS users.
