Last week, after having to suspend operations at our Eastside Sanitation Yard (Bowleys Lane) to protect workers from the continuing spread of COVID-19, DPW began mobilizing other sanitation employees within the Bureau of Solid Waste. These other employees had been on permission leave (not working, but being paid) for weeks with the understanding that they would support core operations. These essential workers have been reminded of that fact, and a number of employees have returned to work.

The agency continues to provide quality personal protective equipment and laundry services for Solid Waste employees. The Bureau also has daily briefings with staff about the importance of following social distancing and the use their masks and gloves.

The Department of Public Works has also received support from other City agencies to assist with collections while some employees continue to recover or self-isolate due to possible exposure. Acting Director Matthew Garbark has expressed his appreciation for that vital aid. We are also seeking contractors to assist us.
While recycling remains on hold a bit longer, we expect trash collections will return to normal this week. 

The Sisson Street Citizen Drop-Off Center, located at 2840 Sisson Street, is fully reopened for public use. Its hours of operations are from Monday – Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. In addition, DPW is accepting bulk trash items at two other locations: Northwest Transfer Station, located at 5030 Reisterstown Road, Monday - Saturday 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. or the Quarantine Road Landfill, located at 6100 Quarantine Road. Monday - Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Residents can also drop off their recycling at any one of these three convenience centers.
