Join the Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) for music and holiday fun! On Thursday, December 5, DPW will launch its Mitten/Giving Tree Campaign joining with school groups from throughout the City to celebrate the start of this annual event to provide hats, gloves, scarves and MORE (water bottle, socks, blankets) to Baltimore children in need.

This event will be held in the lobby of the Abel Wolman Municipal Building, 200 Holliday Street. The ceremony begins at 11:30 a.m.

During the annual Mitten Tree campaign, DPW joins with the City’s Departments of Transportation and General Services to collect donations of mittens, gloves, hats, and scarves to distribute to charitable groups. 

Performing at the December 5 kick-off ceremony will be Paul Laurence Dunbar High School Band, Frederick Douglass High School Band, Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club Choir, and more.

The annual Mitten Tree toss will be the finale! Ceremony attendees will celebrate the start of the Mitten Tree campaign by tossing mittens and other items on the giant tree in the lobby of the Abel Wolman Municipal Building. 

Residents and City Employees are encouraged to leave donations of mittens, gloves, hats, and scarves in the collection bin in the Abel Wolman Municipal Building. Donations will be accepted through Monday, December 23. The donations will be distributed to: Baltimore City Public Schools Homeless Services, Healthcare for the Homeless, Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club, and Sarah’s Hope.
