DPW Announces Passing of Solid Waste Worker
Saturday Nov 9th, 2024
The Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) is heartbroken to announce the loss of a dedicated member of our Bureau of Solid Waste, Timothy Cartwell, a solid waste worker assigned to the Reedbird Sanitation Yard. His passing is a profound loss for our agency, and we extend our deepest condolences to his family, loved ones, and colleagues.
On Friday morning, Mr. Cartwell sustained fatal injuries while collecting trash in the alleyway of 1800 Baker Street. He was transported to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he passed away from his injuries. Senior DPW leadership visited the hospital to provide support during this difficult time. We are fully committed to supporting all employees affected by this tragedy. Counseling services and support are available to staff through the City’s Employee Assistance Program.
The circumstances surrounding Mr. Cartwell’s injuries are under investigation by the Baltimore Police Department. We respectfully ask for privacy for Mr. Cartwell’s family, loved ones and colleagues as they navigate this painful loss.
