Weather Conditions, Positive COVID-19 Cases Contribute to Trash, Recycling Collections Delays Additional Solid Waste Services Impacted

The Department of Public Works (DPW) thanks residents for their patience as we continue to work through operational challenges presented by the rise in positive COVID-19 cases and today’s winter weather impacts. DPW may have some challenges servicing trash or recycling pick-ups scheduled for tomorrow, Tuesday, January 4. The City’s alleyways are expected to remain quite slick, and any melting precipitation will refreeze overnight. These conditions make the collection of trash and recycling difficult for sanitation workers. DPW reminds residents that only City streets are plowed and that alleyways and sidewalks are the responsibility of the resident or the business owner. Please check your alleys and sidewalks when you shovel to avoid further disruption to trash and recycling collections.

In addition, the following Solid Waste services will remain suspended on Tuesday, January 4, 2022.

  • Bulk Collections
  • Street Sweeping
  • Street & Alley Cleaning
  • Cleaning & Boarding 
  • Fire Debris/Special Investigation Unit (SIU)
  • Graffiti Removal
  • Waterway Cleaning
  • Rat Rubout Program

DPW Offices and Sanitation Yards Closed for Independence Day

Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) Director Khalil Zaied reminds residents that Friday, July 4, 2025, is Independence Day, a City holiday. As a result, all DPW offices and sanitation yards will be CLOSED in observance of the holiday. There will be no trash or recycling collections on Friday, July 4. Collections will resume on the makeup day, Saturday, July 5, 2025. Additionally, there will be no street sweeping due to the holiday closure.

DPW Releases 2024 Water Quality Report

The Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) today announced the release of its 2024 Water Quality Report, providing residents in Baltimore City and Baltimore County with important information about the quality of their drinking water.
