Celebrate America Recycles Day! Attend DPW’s Recycling Fair: Monday, November 15!

Come celebrate with DPW! In celebration of America Recycles Day, the Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) is hosting a Recycling Fair, a fun-filled afternoon of music, food, recycle-right games, and information. The Recycling Fair will take place Monday, November 15, from 3 p.m.-6 p.m. on the corner of Francis Street and N. Fulton Avenue, next to DPW's Park Terminal Building.

"America Recycles Day is a special day to promote and celebrate recycling in Baltimore City. This year's America Recycles Day is especially significant, as DPW continues to roll out its Residential Recycling Cart Program, bringing equitable curbside recycling access to the City of Baltimore," said DPW Director Jason W. Mitchell.

It has been nearly two months since DPW began the distribution of the 65-gallon rolling, lidded recycling carts to more than 190,000 City households. The recycling cart rollout is on track. To date, some 75,000 carts have been delivered to City households.

The Residential Recycling Cart Program is a first-of-its-kind public-private partnership initiative, expected to yield 40 million pounds of new recyclables. This effort was made possible by a groundbreaking collaboration brought together by The Recycling Partnership, with American Beverage's Every Bottle Back initiative, Closed Loop Partners, Dow, the Baltimore Civic Fund, and Rehrig Pacific.

Residents who are new to recycling or have questions about the City-issued recycling carts are especially encouraged to attend the November 15 Recycling Fair, which will provide an opportunity to receive recycling resources and get tips from DPW's recycling experts. Coupons for FREE food from the food trucks will be provided to everyone who visits DPW’s information tables and plays the Recycle Right games.

DPW’s recycling experts encourage residents with questions about what items to place in the new recycling carts to use the Recycle Right web tool.

America Recycles Day is the only nationally recognized day dedicated to raising awareness and hosting events for recycling.

Baltimore City and County Submit Initial Water Service Line Inventory to MDE Part of a Nationwide Effort to Remove Lead Lines from Water Systems

On Tuesday, October 15, the Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) and the Baltimore County Department of Public Works and Transportation (DPWT) submitted their initial water service line inventory to the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE). This submission is part of a nationwide effort, led by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), to identify and eliminate lead and galvanized pipes from water distribution systems.

DPW is Now Accepting Public Comments on the Modified Sanitary Sewer Consent Decree Revised Emergency Response Plan 

The Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW)  has announced the release of its Revised Emergency Response Plan (ERP), a reference tool to be used by City personnel during a sanitary sewer overflow or reported building backup emergency. The Modified Sanitary Sewer Consent Decree (MCD) requires DPW to submit a revised Emergency Response Plan to protect the public health and welfare in the event of an unpermitted release, spill, or discharge of pollutants from the sewer collection system or in the event of a reported building backup.
