Baltimore City Department of Public Works Director Rudolph S. Chow, P.E., reminds residents that Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 28 is a City holiday, and that DPW offices and yards will be CLOSED.

The make-up collection day for trash and recycling in those areas that are regularly scheduled for collection on Thursday will be Saturday, Nov. 30.

DPW’s Thanksgiving schedule:

  • Trash and recycling will NOT be collected.
  • Bulk trash collections are not scheduled.
  • Citizen drop-off centers WILL BE CLOSED (all yards, including Quarantine Road Landfill, the Northwest Transfer Station and the Eastern, Western and Northwest Collections Facilities).
  • Mechanical street sweeping will NOT take place, and street sweeping signs will NOT be in effect.

Have Clog-Free Holiday!

Everyone can have clog-free holiday by properly disposing of fats, oils, and grease (FOG).  When preparing Thanksgiving meals, residents are urged to make sure that FOG does not go down any drain – sink, toilet, or storm drain. Instead, pour cooking oil and grease from foods into a metal can. Let it cool, then put it in the trash.  Before you wash pots, pans and dishes, wipe away the FOG with a paper towel, and deposit it in the trash.

Here’s a partial list of clog-causing items to never put down a drain:

Coffee grounds

Egg shells

Butter and margarine

Sauces and salad dressings

Pasta or rice

Flour

Medicine

Produce stickers

Wipes
