DPW’s Back in the Community: Tuesday, Dec. 18

Baltimore City Department of Public Works Director Rudolph S. Chow, P.E., wants every eligible household to sign up for DPW programs that help City residents struggling to pay their water bills.

To find out more about DPW’s current and proposed assistance programs, Director Chow invites City residents to attend one of the three remaining “DPW in the Community” Meetings. The next community meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 18, at the Public Safety & Training Facility, 3500 W. Northern Parkway, Baltimore, Md. 21215. The meeting starts promptly at 6 p.m. and ends at 8 p.m.

At the meeting, residents can learn more about DPW’s proposed Baltimore H20 Assists, a fiscally and socially responsible proposal that would allow DPW to provide a 43-percent discount on water and sewer costs to at least 40,000 eligible low-income households.

Residents will also have a chance to ask DPW Customer Support and Services staff about water bills and monthly payment plans to help bring outstanding water bills current. In addition, residents can get sanitation-related concerns addressed and apply for DPW jobs on the spot.

Director Chow will open the community meeting with remarks and then take questions from the audience. Following the question-and-answer session, meeting attendees can visit the DPW resource tables.

DPW launched a series of community meetings last week (Tuesday, Dec. 11) with a standing-room-only crowd in West Baltimore at the Gospel Tabernacle Baptist Church. Two “DPW in the Community” Meetings are scheduled for Jan. 4.

Baltimore City and County Submit Initial Water Service Line Inventory to MDE Part of a Nationwide Effort to Remove Lead Lines from Water Systems

On Tuesday, October 15, the Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) and the Baltimore County Department of Public Works and Transportation (DPWT) submitted their initial water service line inventory to the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE). This submission is part of a nationwide effort, led by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), to identify and eliminate lead and galvanized pipes from water distribution systems.

DPW is Now Accepting Public Comments on the Modified Sanitary Sewer Consent Decree Revised Emergency Response Plan 

The Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW)  has announced the release of its Revised Emergency Response Plan (ERP), a reference tool to be used by City personnel during a sanitary sewer overflow or reported building backup emergency. The Modified Sanitary Sewer Consent Decree (MCD) requires DPW to submit a revised Emergency Response Plan to protect the public health and welfare in the event of an unpermitted release, spill, or discharge of pollutants from the sewer collection system or in the event of a reported building backup.
