DPW Reports Sewer Overflow Repaired

The Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) announced the successful repair of the sanitary sewer overflow in the 1500 block of North Chapel Street. This overflow was discovered on Aug. 18, 2016.

Contractors installed a bypass this morning, Thursday, August 25, to stop the flow of sewer water, and repaired the hole in the line this afternoon. The leak, which never surfaced to the roadway, discharged an estimated total of 84,000 gallons into the Baltimore Harbor.

DPW has crews that are dedicated to finding the source of leaks such as this one. The leaks are then fixed as quickly as possible.

The Baltimore City Health Department and the Maryland Department of the Environment were notified of the release.

As a result, all DPW offices and sanitation yards will be CLOSED in observance of the holiday. There will be no trash or recycling collections on Friday, July 4. Collections will resume on the makeup day, Saturday, July 5, 2025. Additionally, there will be no street sweeping due to the holiday closure.
