DPW Temporary Service Changes: Trash Collection will be made from the front

BALTIMORE, MD – Baltimore City Department of Public Works Director Rudy S. Chow, P.E., today announced that scheduled trash pickups for Thursday, Jan. 28, and Friday, Jan. 29, will be held as FRONT COLLECTIONS only.  This means that residents who normally receive collections from the rear alley must bring their trash to the front of the home.  This pickup will occur in areas where the streets are accessible.
 
In addition, trash collection makeup days for those who were scheduled for pickup on Tuesday or Wednesday are as follows:
 
Saturday, Jan. 30 – Makeup for Tuesday, Jan. 26, missed trash collection - front collection only, where streets are accessible.
 
Monday, Feb. 1 – Makeup day for Wednesday, Jan. 27, missed trash collection -front collection only, where streets are accessible.
 
Crews will NOT pick up recycling the rest of this week or next in order to concentrate resources on trash collection. Residents are asked to keep their recycling – or drop it off at one of the City’s five Citizen Convenience Centers – while trash crews focus on removing the trash.
 
Street sweeping, bulk trash collection, and rat abatements remain suspendedthrough this week.  Boarding of property will be done on an emergency basis only.
 
Beginning on Tuesday, Feb. 2, and continuing through Friday, Feb.5, rear collections for trash will depend on whether the alleys are clear enough for the trucks and workers to work safely in them.  Other services will also be assessed.
 
City workers and contractors continue efforts to clear roads following this weekend’s historic snowfall. Where residential streets and alleys are impassable, trucks cannot run their routes and drivers have been called to duty plowing and clearing the roads. 
 
Residents are reminded to keep trash in bags and secured inside durable trash cans with tight-fitting lids. 
 
The citizen convenience centers and the Quarantine Road landfill are open for citizen drop offs at 5 (five) locations for recycling and trash:
 
5030 Reisterstown Road
2840 Sisson Street
701 Reedbird Avenue
6101 Bowleys Lane
6100 Quarantine Road
 
Residents should continue to work to locate and clear the storm drains in their streets and alleys. As temperatures rise above freezing and the snow melts during daylight hours, the stormwater system can only drain water away if the inlets are kept open. Please also make sure hydrants are clear of snow and accessible.

The Department of Public Works is Now Accepting Public Comment on the Modified Sanitary Sewer Consent Decree Revised Operation and Maintenance Plan

The Modified Consent Decree Revised Operation and Maintenance (O&M) Plan has officially been released by the Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) and is available on the DPW website for review and comment in accordance with the Modified Sanitary Sewer Consent Decree (MCD). DPW will accept public comments pertaining to this document for 30 days, through November 16, 2024. Comments may be submitted directly to Michael.Shipman@baltimorecity.gov.

Baltimore City and County Submit Initial Water Service Line Inventory to MDE Part of a Nationwide Effort to Remove Lead Lines from Water Systems

On Tuesday, October 15, the Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) and the Baltimore County Department of Public Works and Transportation (DPWT) submitted their initial water service line inventory to the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE). This submission is part of a nationwide effort, led by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), to identify and eliminate lead and galvanized pipes from water distribution systems.
