April 25, 2014 (Baltimore, MD) — Public Works Director Rudolph S. Chow, P.E., reminds everyone that Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake’s 2014 Spring Cleanup is on Saturday, April 26, 2014. Beginning tomorrow morning, 215 communities from throughout the city will take broom in hand to beautify their streets, alleys and lots. Many will be planting flowers, trees and vegetable gardens as spring gets into full swing. Participating communities will bag and stack debris at designated collection locations so that it can be picked up on Monday, April 28. Free garbage bags have been made available to registered communities. A kick-off for the day will take place along the shore of Druid Lake at 9:00 a.m. This will be done at EcoFest in conjunction with Baltimore Green Works and Comcast. Congressman Elijah Cummings will be a featured speaker. The Department of Public Works will be selling recycling bins from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at EcoFest at discounted prices of $8 for a large container and $3 for the smaller one. Residents and property owners have an added incentive to get involved in our annual cleanups. The Maryland Stormwater Fee allows participants fee-reduction for participating in organized cleanups such as this. For more information on cleanup opportunities and how you can get involved please call 311.
