BALTIMORE. MD (October 28, 2013) — Tomorrow, October 29, 2013, the Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) will be holding an open community meeting to present its proposal for two new underground water storage tanks. These will be located adjacent to Lake Ashburton in Hanlon Park. The purpose of this project is to comply with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Enhanced Surface Water Treatment requirement that all existing open finished drinking water storage facilities must be covered or have supplemental treatment to achieve specified water quality standards.

The proposed project involves the installation of these underground storage tanks which will hold finished drinking water, a function now served by Lake Ashburton. Lake Ashburton will remain as the community landmark it has been for generations. As part of this community meeting, DPW is seeking input on plans to not only maintain the historic integrity of Hanlon Park, but also to enhance its landscaping and expand its recreational facilities. Everyone is invited.
