Early Tuesday morning, during a routine water main repair, a gas main was damaged and service interrupted to many homes in the Carrollton Ridge and Mill Hill communities.

Baltimore City Public Works is working in close coordination with BGE to restore service quickly and safely. At this time gas service has been shut off at 600 of 956 affected properties.

BGE will be working into the evening to complete individual property shut-offs. Beginning Thursday morning at 8am and continuing through Friday evening, BGE, supported by Baltimore City Public Works and Baltimore Housing, will visit each home to inspect and clear individual service lines, restore service and relight gas appliances where possible.

In addition to door-to-door outreach to alert citizens to the work occurring in the area, some residents will have as many as three additional visits from BGE, Public Works and Housing as we work together to restore service, clear lines and inspect for safety of appliances. All maintenance professionals and inspectors working in the affected communities will be wearing visible identification from BGE or the City of Baltimore. Citizens should not allow anyone into their home unless that individual provides proper identification.

Baltimore City Police will have an increased presence in the area until service is fully restored.
In addition to inspectors, Baltimore Housing is also staffing a Customer Care Center and Temporary Shelter located at the Bentalou Recreation Center, 222 N. Bentalou St. The center will provide coffee, donuts, bottled water and meals, as well as a nurse on staff through midnight Friday. Claim forms will be available there for customers whose appliances are damaged and cannot be restored to service.

BGE, Public Works and Housing will be working from 8:00am till 11:00pm on Thursday and Friday to address individual gas services.

Citizens are reminded to be careful when using any approved electrical heating devices. Kerosene heaters and gas generators within the home are illegal and extremely dangerous.

DPW Offices and Sanitation Yards Closed for Independence Day

Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) Director Khalil Zaied reminds residents that Friday, July 4, 2025, is Independence Day, a City holiday. As a result, all DPW offices and sanitation yards will be CLOSED in observance of the holiday. There will be no trash or recycling collections on Friday, July 4. Collections will resume on the makeup day, Saturday, July 5, 2025. Additionally, there will be no street sweeping due to the holiday closure.
