Tour the Montebello Water Filtration Plant!
Artworks, Vehicle Displays, Wildlife, and MORE!

Come out to celebrate the Baltimore region’s drinking water system at Dam Jam 2018! Take a tour of the historic Montebello Water Filtration Plant for an up-close look at how we get your drinking water ready for your tap.  

The Dam Jam celebration will be Saturday, Aug 25, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at beautiful Lake Montebello.

In addition to the organized tours of the water filtration plant, Dam Jam features visual and craft artisans, live music, history displays, and native wildlife presentations. The DPW water fountain will be on display featuring Baltimore’s great tasting drinking water. Dam Jam will be held in the area around the historic gatehouse that sits on the grounds of Lake Montebello.

There will be large vehicles for kids and adults to explore, and live wildlife from Scales and Tales and the Carrie Murray Nature Center. There will be fun activities for the kids: face painting, Lego and coloring stations, and an interactive storm drain tunnel.  Recycling bins will also be on sale.

Admission is FREE, and attendees are encouraged to bring chairs, blankets, and picnic baskets to experience the entire day's events. Food vendors will also be on-site.  Parking is available at Mergenthaler Vocational Technical High School (Mervo), 3500 Hillen Road, Baltimore, Md. 21218.

“I urge both Baltimore City and County residents to attend Dam Jam 2018. They’ll have fun and also learn about our regional water system, our history, and the process for delivering safe, clean drinking water,” said DPW Director Rudolph S. Chow, P.E.  

Top-notch musical entertainment will be provided by the Cold Spring Jazz Quartet, which will open up the festival. The quartet will perform from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. 

The afternoon music entertainment is provided by the Panama Band. This talented, well-known group appears at many events throughout the area They capture the sounds of summer soul, pop, and R&B. The group will perform from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m.

Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) Director Khalil Zaied reminds residents that Friday, July 4, 2025, is Independence Day, a City holiday. As a result, all DPW offices and sanitation yards will be CLOSED in observance of the holiday. There will be no trash or recycling collections on Friday, July 4. Collections will resume on the makeup day, Saturday, July 5, 2025. Additionally, there will be no street sweeping due to the holiday closure.
